Following on from my post on blogging, I decided to extend this to include another great way of engaging with fellow resilience practitioners. Welcome to the wonderful world of Twitter.
Twitter is the leader in a category of tools that support microblogging. It allows you to post short messages (in Twitter’s case 140 characters) that can be read by other Twitter users who have chosen to follow you. It is more than people just telling you what they had for breakfast. It can be a rich source of information and a real way of engaging with people who have similar interests.
For starters, you can follow all of the major news agencies who publish breaking news stories. You can also follow more specific information sources such as earthquake, flooding and fire alerting services. There are plenty of organisations and companies who post updates on their products and services. There are also individuals who share information about interesting documents and websites they have found. On occasion someone who is attending a conference will provide a live commentary on the event.
The way you use Twitter is entirely up to yourself. I use Twitter like a live news feed but because I choose who to subscribe to, I get content that is relevant to me. I rarely tweet myself, except to notify my followers that a new blog post has been published. So when you do create your Twitter account be sure to follow @agilecontinuity.
