Blink

Having posted the Lipstick chart I wanted to add a couple of thoughts. The first is on why this early assessment is likely to be useful. At this stage we are of course creating a very rough assessment of the business. Some would argue that this is less than useful and would need to be backed up with a full impact analysis. I don’t disagree with this position, but would point people towards the book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell. In this book Gladwell points to our facility to make snap judgments that are surprisingly accurate. These judgements should of course be backed up with more critical analysis as these same snap judgements can be unduly influenced. However, there is nothing like a picture as a starting point for this analysis.

More on the lipstick chart on Friday.
